A notable ceramics collection by Joan Brown

The collection comprises a selection of her work including vases, bowls, planters and water features.

Joan Brown, DA MSDC, studied painting at the Edinburgh College of Art and textile design and etching at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London and is elected member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen.

Joan began working in ceramics in the early 1970s while bringing up a family. Among her most notable early commissions was making ceramic vessels for the roof garden for The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester which her husband had designed.

Joan has exhibited in several London galleries including Amalgam, The Anshel gallery and Prima Vera and the Open Eye Gallery in Edinburgh.

ABSTRACTED FIGURES

Nine various abstract figure ornaments in experimental metallic glazes and paint effects. Each approx. 40cm high.

ABSTRACTED BOTTLE VASES

Five textured abstract bottle vases in experimental glazes and paint effects. Each approx. 40cm high.

WATER FEATURE

A garden water feature with three copper micro-bore tubes feeding water to a textured plateau with applied ribbons raised on a square base section, 35cm high.

ABSTRACTED BRICKS

A group of seven garden design bricks with abstract internal planes and cut-outs, each approx. 20cm high.

OVIFORM VASE

A large oviform vase with raised swirls and circular forms in cream glaze on a black ground, 20cm high.

TWO CURVED VASES

A large abstract vase with curving green glazed top surface and applied reliefs, 24 cm high. Second curved vase without relief, 24cm high.

TALL GEOMETRIC VASE

A tall vase of flaring rectangular section with applied geometric designs, 37cm high.

TALL RED VASE

A tall circular section vase with incised linear decoration in a red finish, 29cm high.

TRIPLE ABSTRACT WATER FEATURES

Two water features formed as triple abstract vessels feeding each other water in pale lavender glazes, tallest 25cm high.

ABSTRACT BOWLS

A large varied selection of abstract shaped bowls, comports and vases with experimental glazes in pale colours, largest dish 34cm diameter.

CERAMIC DISHES

Two ceramic dishes, one with glaze resist decoration.
