Fine crocodile travelling case by Mawson Swan & Morgan with silver dressing set

 

A fine and exceptional quality crocodile travelling case by Newcastle Silversmiths & Dressing Bag Makers Mawson Swan & Morgan Ltd, with interior silver dressing set hallmarked 1907 and original canvas cover.

Crocodile Travelling Case

The crocodile case has gilt monogram W. to face, a monogram repeat on canvas cover, elaborated to M.A.W. on crocodile sewing and card case to interior. Gilt makers monogram to front inscribed Mawson Swan & Morgan Ltd, Silversmiths & Dressing Bag Makers, Newcastle Upon Tyne. Silver dressing set has engraved greyhound motif to silver piece, and comprises range of quality dressing, powder and travelling accoutrement jars in buttoned compartments to cushion-lined interior. Upside interior has silver grooming set with mirror and brushes in self-same compartments. Lowside interior has crocodile manicure case with silver accoutrements, crocodile wallet and silver comb. Downside interior has two small cases monogramed Ink and Light.

Inside Crocodile Travelling Case

Case and contents are in exceptional condition, bar two missing accoutrements and wear to wallet. Includes two keys to double lever locks.

A rare provincial example of a genre of travelling cases which defined luxury travel at the beginning of the twentieth century, contemporary in kind to the later crocodile case by Asprey and Edwards of London
